Things to do in January in Charleston

If you are looking for things to do in January, we have you covered! From stargazing on the Ashley to winter wine and oyster festivals, there is an event or activity for everyone! Take a look at a few of our favorites below.

Museum Mile Month: January 1-31

During the month of January, you can enjoy access to participating Museum Mile sites with the purchase of one low ticket price! Museum mile is a one-mile section of Meeting Street where you will find six museums, four parks, a Revolutionary War powder magazine, and an array of historic churches and public buildings. Adult tickets are $35 and children’s are $10 for 13 different sites. This is an affordable way to learn about Charleston’s rich history and culture! Click here to purchase tickets.

Charleston Winter Wine Festival: January 28

If you love wine, you don’t want to miss the Charleston Winter Wine Festival! The festival will feature more than 50 unique wines, mimosas, seltzers, beer, and live music! Tickets are $45 if purchased before January 19th. Click here for more information and tickets.

Lowcountry Oyster Festival: January 29

Love oysters? If so, grab your oyster knives and look no further than this year's Lowcountry Oyster Festival. Claiming to be the world’s largest oyster festival, this family-friendly event features live music, shucking and eating contests, imported beers, a children's area, a food court, and—best of all—45,000 pounds of oysters! Stargazing on the Ashley: January 28
5:30-8 pm

If you love stargazing, you’ll want to attend this event at Drayton Hall, a legendary Southern estate museum located in the Ashley River Historic District. Registration is required for this brilliant evening and includes your first beverage. Tickets are $35. Click here to register.

Beach Time With Your Pooch at Folly Beach

While the beach might not be the first location that comes to mind when thinking of January activities, it is if you have a furry, four-legged friend! From October 1st to April 30th, dogs are welcome to accompany you on Folly Beach. All you'll need is a jacket for yourself and a leash for your pooch! Click here for all Folly Beach dog rules.

Ice Skating at the Point: December 1-February 4
Thursday-Sunday 3-8 pm

Head over to the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina for one of the coolest events of the winter season—outdoor ice skating in Charleston! Along with the outdoor ice rink, you can rent igloos and fire pit experiences for $25/hour. There are also s’mores, hot cocoa, and beer. The kids will enjoy the jump castles and games. $12 for a 50-minute skate. Reservations are required. Click here for tickets. 

Catch a Stingrays Game

Head up to the North Charleston Coliseum and check out our professional minor-league hockey team! There are several games throughout the month, so there are plenty of opportunities to get together with friends or family to cheer on our local team! Tickets start at $21.
